Sunday Night Stories - Tranquility Base

38. Last time I counted. That's how many National Parks I have been fortunate to have visited. And this one was one of the best.

Glacier National Park, even at the wrong time, is still the right time. Janet and I had wanted to go there for a while, but it being nowhere near anything else made planning a trip more difficult. We had to fly in smaller planes than she cares for, and we had to tie in a time when it would work well for our daughter to come along. In May of 2012, everything fell into place. Janet found a great cabin for rent, and Laura had a few days to spare.

Lake McDonald is near the Western Entrance to the park, as is a small area called Apgar. There's a super small lodge where you can rent some rooms if you plan way in advance, and you're at the tail of the Going to the Sun Road. Make a note not to go too early in the year, since the road may not be open as of yet, but even if it is closed, the park has stunning views and quiet serenity everywhere!
